Setting a square stone inside a circle is a deliberate mismatch. The two shapes do not agree — the corners point at the ring and the curves never meet them — and that disagreement is what makes the earring interesting. A round stone would have sat comfortably and said nothing. The square argues with its frame, which is the whole idea.
The stone is a flat-topped square cabochon rather than a faceted one, so it shows an even block of colour instead of scattering light. It is held in a plain bezel and fixed to the bar at the centre of the circle, which means it appears to float inside the ring rather than resting on it. The circle and bar are both polished round wire, deliberately simple so the stone carries the piece.
Black is the strongest against gold and the most graphic. Blue and Green are the deepest. Red is the warmest. Aqua, Mint, Yellow and Grey are the lighter options. The stone is the only colour in the design, so the choice matters more here than on a busier piece.

Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and into any textured areas. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
