A mint green stone sits at the top in a cluster of clear kundan petals, with two small peacocks facing inward beneath it. Below spreads a crescent packed with clear kundan, and from it hangs a layered fringe of faceted beads in mint and soft pink.
Available in 12 colours: Pink, Green, Blue, Black, Lavender, Teal Green, Red, Sky Pink, Purple, Yellow, Sea Pink and Baby Pink. The colour refers to the top stone and the bead fringe; the kundan crescent stays clear throughout.
Pastel chandbalis are far less common than the traditional red and green, and they solve a real problem for daytime functions, where deep jewel colours can look heavy under natural light. Mint and soft pink against gold reads fresh rather than formal, which suits a morning ceremony or a lunch reception.
The fringe is layered in two depths, so the lower edge is soft and uneven rather than a straight line, and the beads move independently as you turn.
Two small gold peacocks sit facing each other between the top stone and the crescent, their crests and tails picked out in fine detail. They are a quiet traditional touch in a design that is otherwise quite modern in its colouring.
Filled edge to edge with clear kundan stones, each seated in a raised gold bed with the characteristic visible outline of true kundan setting. Keeping the crescent clear is what allows twelve different fringe colours to work against the same base.
Post fitting. The crescent is openwork behind the stones and the beads are small, so these are light for their width and comfortable across a long function.
Chiffon, georgette and light silks in cream, ivory, pastel or gold. They also work beautifully against a deep contrasting colour such as bottle green or navy, where the pastel fringe stands out. Hair back or to one side, necklace short or absent.
A great deal of wedding season now happens in daylight — mehendi in a garden, a morning ceremony, a lunch reception — and jewellery chosen for evening rarely translates well. Deep ruby and emerald against heavy gold were designed for lamplight and can look severe under the sun, while pastels that seem too soft indoors come into their own outside. If your calendar includes daytime events, it is worth owning at least one pair in a lighter palette rather than relying on a single set of festive jewellery to cover every occasion of the season.
Keep them in a zip lock pouch so the bead fringe cannot chip. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
