This pair puts a bit of colour into a shape that is usually left plain. The top is a small lotus-inspired motif with enamel filled between its silver outlines, and the jhumka dome hanging below carries the same enamel colour in a band around its body before it drops into a fringe of pearl beads. It is a compact earring rather than a statement one, which is deliberate. Jhumkas at this scale are the ones that actually get worn on ordinary days, and the colour band gives you a way to tie them to whatever you happen to be wearing.
Look at the top element and you will see the lotus petals picked out in raised oxidised silver with colour set into the spaces between them, which keeps the outline of the motif crisp. The dome below is fluted along its length, so light runs down it in fine vertical lines, and a row of small round pearl beads is strung along the bottom rim. A slim curved hook carries the whole thing, keeping the balance point high and the weight close to the lobe. The silver has the darkened, slightly uneven antique tone that gives traditional pieces their depth, with the recesses left deliberately darker than the raised surfaces.
Pick the enamel shade first and build outward. A colour that repeats something already in your outfit, a border on a saree or a print in a kurta, will make the pair look intentional rather than added on. These are small enough to wear with a dupatta over the shoulder without tangling, which is not true of larger jhumkas. Wear them with your hair loose for everyday and pinned up when you want the lotus motif to be the thing people notice. They sit comfortably alongside a thin chain but do not need one.
Daily wear, work, casual family gatherings, small pujas and festive mornings. They also make a good first pair of jhumkas for someone who finds the larger traditional sizes too heavy.
The enamel and the oxidised tone both last longest when the earrings stay away from moisture and chemicals. Put them on last when you are getting ready, after perfume and hair products, and take them off before bathing or sleeping. Wipe them down with a soft dry cloth after wear so that skin oils do not sit on the surface. Store them in a pouch rather than loose, and never use a liquid jewellery dip, which will lift both the enamel colour and the darkened antique finish.
