A cluster of stones at the lobe, then a long plain gold stem running down with nothing on it at all, and only at the bottom does the earring resume — a peacock crest spreading wide above a deeply fluted jhumka with a pearl fringe. Available in Baby Pink, White, Black, Mint, Red and Blue.
This is the most unusual proportion in the collection. Almost every long Indian earring decorates its entire length; this one deliberately leaves the middle bare, so there is ornament at the top, nothing for a long stretch, and then everything at the bottom. The effect is to push the visual weight much lower than usual and to make the jhumka arrive as a surprise. It also keeps the earring from looking crowded despite how much is happening at each end.
The top is a tight cluster of stones in gold bezels, compact enough to sit neatly on the lobe. The stem below is plain round wire, rigid, with no links or beading. At its base a peacock crest spreads horizontally, modelled in relief and set with small stones, acting as a canopy over the jhumka. The bell is deeply fluted and carries a close double row of pearls around its rim. Warm gold throughout.
Red and Green-adjacent tones are the traditional choices. Black and White are graphic and modern. Baby Pink and Mint are soft. Blue is the deepest of the cool options. The colour appears in the top cluster and the crest stones.
Hair fully up — with the middle of the earring bare, loose hair would break the line entirely and ruin the effect. Neck bare, no necklace. These suit silk and tissue and are formal enough for a wedding.
Weddings, receptions, sangeets and major festivals.
Better than expected for the length, because the long stem is plain wire and carries no weight at all. The mass sits at the bottom, which does pull a little, so these are an evening earring.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and through any fringe or chain. Store them flat and on their own in a pouch so the chains do not tangle, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
