Two or three textured gold leaves open outward at the lobe, a long plain stem runs down from them carrying one small stone partway, and a teardrop stone hangs at the very bottom. Available in Mint Black, Green Yellow, Blue Aqua, Black Grey, Red Green, Baby Pink Mint, Grey Red, Aqua Baby Pink and Yellow Blue.
Every colourway here is a pair of shades — one for the small stone on the stem, another for the teardrop at the base. That gives the earring an internal contrast most single-colour designs lack, and it means the piece can pick up two different colours from an outfit rather than matching only one. With nine combinations the range covers most wardrobes.
The leaves at the top are cut from flat sheet and textured with fine granular detail, set at angles so they read as a small crown rather than a flat fan. The stem below is plain, rigid and deliberately left bare for most of its length, which pushes the visual weight down to the teardrop and stops the earring from looking crowded. Both stones are bezel-set cabochons.
Monalisa is the trade name used across Indian fashion jewellery for a smooth, slightly translucent stone with a soft inner glow, somewhere between a cat's eye and an opal in appearance. It is cut as a cabochon rather than faceted, so it shows an even field of gentle colour instead of scattering sparkle. That makes it considerably easier to wear in daylight than a faceted stone, and kinder against most skin tones. It is a decorative stone used in costume and fashion jewellery and is not a certified natural gemstone.
Hair up — a long bare stem is broken up entirely by loose hair and the design falls apart. These suit modern clothing and plain silk equally. No necklace; the length already occupies the space beside the neck.
Parties, evenings, festivals and daytime functions.
Light for the length, because the stem is plain wire carrying no weight at all and both stones are small thin cabochons.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
