A small textured disc at the lobe, a long straight bar hanging from it, and three small open circles clustered at the bottom. There are no stones and no decoration. It is a drawing in gold wire and nothing more.
Long earrings usually put their mass at the bottom, which drags on the piercing all evening. This one inverts that: the heaviest element is the textured disc at the lobe, the bar is thin, and the three circles at the end are open wire weighing almost nothing. The result hangs its full length without pulling, which is the single biggest practical difference between an earring you keep on and one you take off halfway through dinner.
The disc at the top carries a fine granular texture that holds light softly rather than flashing, so the lobe end stays quiet. The bar is plain, round in section and polished, running straight down with no articulation — which keeps the line clean and stops the earring from folding on itself. At the base, three circles of slightly different sizes are joined in a loose cluster rather than a neat row, which is what prevents the design from looking like a diagram.
Nothing is set into this earring. Nothing can fall out, nothing needs checking, and it survives being thrown into a bag. For an everyday long earring that matters considerably more than sparkle does.
Modern clothing, plain backgrounds, hair up. This is a contemporary silhouette and it looks out of place against heavy traditional work, but excellent with a shirt, a plain dress, linen or a solid-colour kurta. Skip the necklace — a long vertical earring and a pendant compete directly.
Parties, office, evenings out and daily wear.
Among the most comfortable long earrings here, for the reason given above. Nothing projects sideways, so they do not catch on collars or scarves.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and through any fringe. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
