A slender vine of textured gold leaves follows the curve of the outer ear, growing from a small flower at the lobe with a single pearl hanging beneath it. There are no stones anywhere on the piece.
Without stones, everything depends on the leaves — their shape, their spacing and their texture. Each one is veined and set at a slightly different angle, so the vine catches light in a broken, shifting way as the head turns rather than reflecting as a single bright line. It is a quieter piece than a stone-set cuff and considerably easier to wear with any outfit, since there is no colour to coordinate.
The leaves are cut from flat sheet, veined along their length and arranged in alternating pairs that decrease in size as the vine rises, which is what gives the climb its sense of direction. The stem is shaped to follow a typical outer-ear curve so it rests rather than grips. At the lobe end, a small flower with a granulated centre anchors the design, with one pearl hanging below it.
An ear cuff is held by the shape of the ear rather than by a piercing. The curved band eases over the outer rim and grips gently by tension. No piercing is needed where it sits, so it suits anyone with a single piercing who wants the look of several, and it comes off instantly. Ease it on from the side rather than pushing it straight down, and never bend the band wide open to fit — that is what loosens an ear cuff permanently.
Hair up with the ear fully exposed, worn on one ear. Because it carries no colour it works with absolutely any outfit, which makes it the most versatile cuff in the range. Keep the other ear bare or wear a small stud.
Festivals, parties, weddings and daily wear.
Light, and the weight spreads along the ear rather than sitting at one point. The leaves are flat sheet so there is very little mass.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around any stone settings. Store it flat in a pouch so the curve keeps its shape, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
