A narrow stem with leaves set in opposite pairs along its length, hanging from a fine ear wire, with a small clear stone set between each pair. It is a sprig of something — olive, bay, laurel — reduced to its simplest possible outline.
There is a difference between an earring with nothing on it and an earring with one idea on it. A bare gold bar is plain; a sprig is minimal — recognisable, specific and quiet. The distinction matters because minimal jewellery has to earn its restraint, and a botanical outline does that by being immediately legible at a glance even at this small scale.
Each leaf is a flat pointed oval, cut from thin sheet and angled very slightly off the plane of the stem so the pairs catch light at different moments as the earring turns. The stones between them are tiny and set flush, adding a point of brightness without turning the piece into a stone-set earring. The stem is straight and the whole sprig hangs vertically from the hook rather than swinging sideways, which keeps it reading as a sprig rather than a tangle.
A post would hold the sprig flat against the lobe and lose its length. On a hook it hangs clear, and the slight natural movement of a hook earring makes the leaves turn gently — which is the whole point of a botanical design, since real leaves move too.
These are for plain clothing and uncluttered looks. Linen, cotton, a plain shirt, a solid kurta. They work particularly well with a bare neck or a single fine chain, and they suit both Indian and western dressing because a leaf belongs to neither. Hair up or tucked back shows the full length.
Daily wear, office, college and casual outings. These are the earrings you leave in the dish by the door and wear without thinking.
Very light. Flat sheet leaves and a fine wire mean there is almost nothing to feel, and nothing projects outward to catch on a collar.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation rather than before — cosmetics are harder on plating than anything else. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around any stone settings. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and keep them away from water, soap and chlorinated pools.
Type: Hook drop earrings. Metal: Brass. Finish: Gold-tone plating. Work: Flat leaf sprig with small flush-set stone accents. Closure: Fish-hook ear wire. Available in a single gold colourway.
If you wear these with a necklace, let one of them lead. A long earring and a wide necklace worn together crowd the same few inches of skin and both end up looking smaller than they are. The usual solution is a long earring with a close choker, or a short earring with a long haar.
Nothing here is hallmarked and none of it carries resale value, and both facts are stated plainly rather than buried. What you are buying is the design and the finish at a price that lets you match a piece to one outfit without weighing up the cost.
