A tall teardrop panel dominates the earring, filled with clear flat cut kundan set into an open gold lattice so that light passes between the stones. Below it hangs a small plain gold bell with a short fringe of white pearls.
Available in 11 colours: Baby Pink, Peach, Grey, Sky Blue, Yellow, Pink, Black, Red, Sea Green and White. The colour refers to the accent stones within the panel.
The open lattice is unusual for a panel this size. Most large kundan pieces set the stones into solid metal, which makes them heavy and visually dense. Here the gold between the stones is cut away, so you can see through the earring in places and it wears far lighter than it looks.
The teardrop shape is also doing useful work. Wide at the bottom and tapering to a point at the lobe, it draws the eye downward and elongates, which suits most face shapes.
Deliberately plain and deliberately small. After a large panel of stonework, a decorated bell would have been too much, so the design finishes with a simple gold dome and a short pearl fringe — enough to complete the shape without extending it.
Post fitting. Lighter than their size suggests thanks to the openwork, though still a function earring rather than everyday wear.
Lehengas, silk sarees and anarkalis. With eleven colour options there is a version for almost any outfit — the neutral options in Grey, Black and White are the most flexible if you want one pair to cover several events. Hair up, short necklace.
There is a practical ceiling on how big an earring can be before it becomes unwearable, and it is set by weight rather than by taste. Cutting away the metal between stones is the traditional solution: it can remove a third or more of the mass without changing the outline at all, which is why so much antique Indian jewellery is pierced behind the stones. When comparing two large pieces that look similar, turning them over to see how much metal is behind the setting will usually tell you which one you can actually wear all evening.
The eleven colour options also make this a practical choice for a group buying together — bridesmaids, sisters, a family attending the same wedding — since everyone can wear the same design in a shade that suits their own outfit. Matching by design rather than by colour tends to photograph better than everyone wearing identical pieces.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the pearls are not scratched. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
