A wide circular disc covers the lobe, built from concentric rings of raised silver beads radiating out from a domed centre. Below it hangs a pierced jhumka, and from the jhumka fall long tassels of small white pearls.
Available in Silver — the oxidised antique finish with white pearl tassels.
These are a serious statement, and the proportion is what carries them. The disc at the top is unusually large — as wide as many earrings are long — which means the earring commands the whole lower half of the ear before anything hangs below.
The granulated surface is the other reason. Hundreds of individual raised beads in concentric rings catch light from every angle, so the disc never reads as a flat plate. Under movement, the whole surface seems to shimmer slightly.
Rather than a short fringe around the rim, the pearls hang in long strands well below the bell. That changes the character completely: a fringe decorates an edge, whereas tassels of this length become the lower half of the earring in their own right. They swing freely and are what make these such a good choice for occasions with dancing.
Between disc and tassels sits a small pierced jhumka, banded with beading. It is kept modest deliberately — with a large disc above and long tassels below, a full sized bell would have made the earring impossibly heavy.
Post fitting carrying real weight, so these are function jewellery rather than everyday wear. The disc distributes weight across a wide area of the lobe, which helps, but plan on an evening rather than a full day.
Cotton and handloom in plain solid colours, or a simple silk. Hair must be up. Skip the necklace entirely — with a disc this wide and tassels this long, there is no room at the neckline for anything else. Keep bangles plain silver.
The surface of the disc here is covered in hundreds of individual raised beads arranged in concentric rings. That technique is called granulation, and it is one of the oldest decorative methods in metalwork, found in jewellery thousands of years old. It is also slow: each bead has to be formed and fixed in position, and the effect only works if the spacing stays even across the whole surface. That labour is what you are paying for in a piece like this, far more than the weight of the silver itself, and it is why a granulated disc looks so different from a stamped one that appears similar in a photograph.
Store them flat in their own pouch so the pearl tassels cannot tangle — this matters more with tassels than with a short fringe. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, and keep them away from water.
