A large flat cut kundan stone fills the top of the earring, ringed first by a circle of small clear stones and then by a thin band of red enamel. Below hangs an openwork gold jhumka, and from its rim fall faceted pink drops with small pearls between them.
Available in 8 colours: Baby Pink, Red, Pink, Yellow, Olive Green, Green, Teal Green and Lavender. The colour refers to the bead drops and the enamel ring.
The thin line of coloured enamel around the stone is a small detail that does a great deal. It separates the large pale kundan from the gold frame, so the stone reads as a distinct object rather than merging into the metal around it, and it ties the top of the earring to the coloured drops at the bottom.
The kundan itself is generously sized — a broad oval with a soft, milky surface that glows rather than sparkles, which is the characteristic quality of flat cut stones and the reason kundan looks antique rather than glittery.
Openwork rather than solid, so light passes through the bell. That keeps the weight down and gives the lower half of the earring some transparency against the dense stone work above.
Faceted teardrop beads hang around the rim with small pearls set between them. Alternating two materials rather than repeating one is what gives the fringe its texture.
Post fitting, moderate weight, balanced between a substantial top and an open bell. Comfortable through a wedding function.
Silk sarees, lehengas and anarkalis. With eight colours available you can pick a pair to sit against a specific outfit rather than compromise. Hair up, necklace short.
Kundan stones are flat cut and backed with foil, which is why they glow with a soft, even, slightly milky light instead of flashing. Faceted stones do the opposite, breaking light into sharp moving points. Neither is better, but they suit different settings: a faceted stone wants strong light and looks its best under a chandelier, while a flat cut stone holds its character in dull daylight and photographs without blowing out. Traditional Indian jewellery leans on flat cut stones for exactly that reason, and it is why kundan reads as antique rather than sparkly.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the drops cannot chip. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
