A round enamel face carrying a small gold flower, framed by a border of uncut-style kundan stones rather than the faceted clear stones used on most studs. Available in Mint, Aqua, Blue, Baby Pink and Black.
The difference between a kundan border and a crystal one is the quality of the light. Faceted stones flash — they throw sharp points of brightness that read as sparkle. Kundan stones are flat-topped and set in a bed of soft gold, so they glow steadily instead, with a milky warmth closer to the look of antique jewellery. On a small everyday stud that is the more useful quality: it is noticeable without being showy, and it does not look out of place in daylight.
Each kundan stone is pressed into its own gold bezel around the rim, which is why the border looks slightly irregular rather than machine-even — that irregularity is inherent to the technique and is part of what makes it recognisable. The enamel fills the centre field, set into a recess so the surface stays flush, and the small raised gold flower at its middle keeps the colour from reading as a plain disc. The post is centred behind a flat back.
Black is the one to choose for versatility. Mint, Aqua and Baby Pink are the daytime options, soft enough to wear with pastels and ivory without clashing. Blue is the deepest and carries best under evening light. The shape is identical across all five, so they are easy to collect and to mix.
These are everyday earrings that happen to carry traditional work, which makes them unusually easy to place — a cotton kurta, a saree, a shirt, all accept them. Wear a second colour in another piercing if you have one. Keep necklaces simple or heavy as you like; a stud this size never argues with anything.
Daily wear, office, college, travel, pujas and small functions. A good first piece of kundan jewellery for anyone who finds the full-size version too formal.
Flat and light with nothing hanging. The kundan border is smooth to the touch, so there is nothing to catch on hair or a scarf.
Meenakari enamel is harder than it looks but chips on impact, so store the pair in a pouch rather than loose in a box with metal jewellery. Put them on after perfume, hairspray and foundation, wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing, and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings. Never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner — all three attack enamel and loosen kundan settings.
