Two painted panels hang one below the other: a small mint hexagon at the lobe carrying a single gold sprig, and beneath it a long ivory oval painted with a complete flowering plant — stem, leaves and blooms — in fine gold line work with touches of green.
Available in Black — the painted panel design shown.
This is closer to miniature painting than to jewellery decoration. The plant on the lower oval is drawn properly, with a stem that tapers, leaves that turn, and flowers at different stages — the kind of botanical detail that belongs to Mughal manuscript painting rather than to stone setting.
Because it is hand drawn, each pair differs slightly. That is worth knowing before you buy: you are getting a painted object rather than a manufactured one, and small variations are a feature of the technique.
Keeping them separate, joined by a small link, lets the lower oval swing independently and gives the earring length without a solid connection. The mint hexagon above is deliberately sparse — a single sprig — so it introduces the idea that the larger panel completes.
Pale ivory below, mint above. Both are unusually soft grounds for meenakari, which normally uses saturated colour, and both are chosen so the fine gold painting reads clearly. On a deep red or green ground this level of line detail would simply disappear.
Post fitting, very light, hanging close to the face. Comfortable for a full day.
Plain fabrics, so the painting has a calm background. Cream, sage, dusty blue and grey all suit. These are a quiet, considered pair rather than a statement one, and they reward being noticed up close. Hair back so the lower panel is visible.
Stones and painting do different jobs. A set stone is about light — how it catches, reflects and sparkles across a room. Painting is about image, and it asks the viewer to come closer. That makes a painted pair a poor choice for a large hall and an excellent one for occasions where you are actually talking to people: a lunch, a small ceremony, an office festival day. If everything in your collection is designed to sparkle, a painted piece adds something genuinely different.
Store them in their own pouch so the painted surface is not scratched. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only, never a metal polishing cloth, and keep them away from water.
