A narrow kundan set top widens into a broad fan, with a long green stone set vertically at the centre inside a green enamel frame. Below hangs a row of large smoky coffee coloured drops.
Available in 8 colours: Teal Green, Lavender, Pista Green, Red, Baby Pink, Pink, Olive Green and Maroon. The colour refers to the centre stone and the enamel frame.
The coffee coloured drops are the unusual element. Neutral brown beads are rare in Indian jewellery, which favours bright jewel tones, and against gold they read as warm and slightly smoky rather than festive. It gives the pair a more restrained, grown up character than a bright fringe would.
Setting the green stone vertically rather than horizontally is the other good decision. A long stone standing upright reinforces the drop of the earring instead of cutting across it, so the eye continues downward through the design.
A thin border of green enamel runs around the centre stone, separating it from the clear kundan surrounding it. Without that line the stone would sit directly against the kundan and the two would compete; the enamel gives it its own territory.
Clear kundan set in rows that widen as they descend, each stone in a raised gold bed. The widening creates the chandelier shape and gives the drops below a broad line to hang from.
Post fitting. These are long and substantial, so they suit a function. The frame is openwork, which keeps the weight manageable for the size.
Because the drops are neutral, these coordinate more easily than most coloured chandeliers. They work with mustard, rust, cream, olive and deep green, and the neutral fringe means they do not clash with a patterned outfit the way a bright fringe would. Hair up, no necklace.
Most people buy festive jewellery in strong colours and then find each pair tied to one or two outfits. A neutral fringe does the opposite: smoky brown, grey and champagne sit quietly against almost anything, including patterns that a bright colour would fight. If you already own red, green and pink pairs, a neutral one will usually see more wear than a fourth bright colour, simply because it never has to be coordinated.
A chandelier earring works by widening as it falls, which draws the eye down and out. The rate of that widening matters: too sharp and the earring looks top heavy, too gradual and it reads as a plain drop. A steady expansion across several rows of stones, as here, is what gives the shape its balance and why this style has stayed in production for decades.
Store them in their own pouch so the drops cannot chip. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
