The second tier is what makes these unusual. Below the main bell, where most jhumkas finish with a bead fringe, a row of miniature jhumkas hangs instead — five small bells, each one a complete jhumka in its own right.
Available in 7 colours: Green, Red, Multi Color, Green Red, White, Purple and Baby Pink. The colour refers to the stones banding the bell and the stone at the centre of the flower. Green and Red are the classic temple pairings; Multi Color and Green Red mix shades through the band.
Hanging small bells beneath a large one gives the earring a rhythm that a plain fringe cannot. Each mini jhumka swings on its own link, so the lower edge moves in several directions at once. It also adds length without adding a solid drop, which keeps the weight manageable.
The flower at the top is generously sized, ringed with clear kundan petals around a green centre stone, so the earring has presence at the lobe as well as below it. That balance between top and bottom is what stops a long jhumka from looking like it is simply dangling.
The main dome is antique gold, granulated all over, with a broad band of green stones running around its widest point and a row of gold beads beneath. The stones sit in raised beds so the band has depth rather than reading as a painted stripe.
Post fitting at the lobe. These are a proper occasion earring — substantial, long and clearly visible — but the two tier construction distributes weight across many small elements instead of one heavy mass, so they remain wearable through a function.
Silk sarees, especially in mustard, cream, deep red or teal where green and gold can stand out. They also work with a plain anarkali when you want the earrings to be the only ornament. Hair up, and keep the necklace short — with a double tier drop, a long neckpiece will visually collide.
A double tier jhumka is considerably more work to make than a single one. Each miniature bell is a complete piece in its own right, with its own dome, rim and fringe, and each has to be linked so that it hangs straight and swings freely without catching on its neighbours. Getting the spacing right is what separates a well made tiered earring from one that tangles. It is worth looking at how evenly the small bells hang when the pair is held up, because that spacing is the clearest sign of care in the construction.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the hanging bells cannot tangle with other jewellery. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
