A large hexagonal stone sits at the centre in a plain silver frame, and beneath it a fan of sharp silver spikes radiates downward, each one tipped with a small bead. A tiny bird perches at the top where the earring meets the lobe.
Available in 4 colours: Sea Green, Green, Baby Pink and Blood Red. The colour refers to the large hexagonal centre stone. Sea Green is the soft mint shown, Green is deeper, Baby Pink is the gentlest and Blood Red the most dramatic.
This is a more modern shape than most oxidised silver. The geometry is deliberate — a hard edged hexagon, a symmetrical fan, evenly spaced spikes — and there is none of the floral or temple ornament that usually defines the category. If you like silver but find traditional designs too ornate, this is the alternative.
The stone is large relative to the earring and completely plain, with no faceting. Against the fine spikes below, that big flat area of colour gives the design its balance.
Seven pointed spikes fan out beneath the stone, each tipped with a small silver bead. The beads soften what would otherwise be a genuinely sharp outline, and they catch light individually so the lower half of the earring sparkles slightly as it moves.
A small bird sits at the very top, almost hidden, with a tiny red stone as its eye. It is a quiet nod to traditional silver work in an otherwise geometric design, and it is the detail people notice last.
Post fitting at the lobe. They are light, because the frame is thin and the spikes are fine, and they sit fairly close to the ear rather than swinging.
Plain solid fabrics in black, white, grey or indigo suit the geometry best. They also work well with western clothes, where the hexagon reads as contemporary rather than ethnic. Hair up or down both work. Keep other jewellery to plain silver.
Hard edged geometry is rare in Indian silver, which leans heavily on flowers, birds, temple arches and paisleys. A hexagon with a symmetrical spike fan sits much closer to contemporary studio jewellery than to traditional ornament, and that makes this pair unusually useful: it goes with western clothing in a way that a floral jhumka never quite does. The small bird at the top is the one concession to tradition, and it is deliberately understated. The result is a piece that works in an office or with a dress, while still being recognisably handmade silver rather than mass produced fashion jewellery.
Keep them in a zip lock pouch so the spike tips are not bent by other jewellery. Put them on after perfume, wipe with a dry soft cloth and keep them away from water.
