Two four-pointed stars — the shape used in drawing to indicate a glint of light rather than an actual star — sit one above the other on a fine climbing pin. No stones are used anywhere.
The clever thing about a four-pointed star is that everyone reads it as brightness. Rendering it in polished gold rather than setting a stone gives the same impression of sparkle with none of the fragility: nothing can come loose, nothing needs checking, and the piece survives being handled carelessly. For an everyday earring that trade is almost always worth making.
Each star has four long tapering points and a softly swollen centre, so the middle holds a broad highlight while the points catch narrow ones — that contrast is what produces the flicker. Both are polished to a mirror rather than textured, because the whole effect depends on reflection. The upper star is slightly smaller, giving the climb a taper. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at the tip.
The pin passes through your existing lobe piercing and then rises at an angle along the ear, so a single piercing produces the look of a climber. There is no cuff, no clip and no second fitting. Slide it through gently and let the upper end rest against the ear — the angle it settles at is what holds it. Nothing hangs below the lobe, so it cannot swing, tangle in hair or catch on a collar.
Hair up or tucked back. The star motif reads as young and modern, so it suits shirts, dresses and plain kurtas particularly well. Being bright rather than coloured, it works equally in daylight and under evening lighting. Wear as a pair.
Daily wear, parties, office and casual outings.
Very light, with nothing hanging. The star points are soft-tipped rather than needle-sharp, so nothing scratches or snags.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush over the textured motifs. Store them flat in a pouch so the pins stay straight, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
