Two round discs, each cut into deep radiating flutes like a scallop shell, sit one above the other on a fine climbing pin. No stones, no colour — the ribbing does all the work.
A plain gold disc of this size reflects as one flat highlight, which looks dull from most angles. Cutting it into radiating ribs breaks that single reflection into a dozen narrow bands that each catch light at a different moment as the head turns. The result is a small earring that keeps moving visually even when it is still, which is exactly what you want on a piece worn at the side of the face.
Each disc is domed slightly rather than flat, so the flutes deepen towards the rim and the shadow between them grows. The two discs are the same size but set at different rotations, meaning their rib patterns do not line up — a small decision that stops the pair looking like a single shape repeated. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at the tip.
The pin passes through your existing lobe piercing and then rises at an angle along the ear, so a single piercing produces the look of a climber. There is no cuff, no clip and no second fitting. Slide it through gently and let the upper end rest against the ear — the angle it settles at is what holds it. Nothing hangs below the lobe, so it cannot swing, tangle in hair or catch on a collar.
Hair up or tucked back. The shell form carries a summery, coastal feeling that works beautifully with linen, white cotton and pastels, and the absence of colour means they go with any outfit. Wear as a pair.
Daily wear, office, travel and casual outings.
Very light, with nothing hanging and nothing to catch. The discs sit flat against the ear rather than standing away from it.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush over the textured motifs. Store them flat in a pouch so the pins stay straight, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
