A half circle opens outward from a narrow hinge, its surface cut into deep radiating flutes, with a single round cabochon stone set where the fan converges. It sits flat against the ear rather than hanging. Available in Baby Pink, Blue, Aqua, Black, Green and Mint.
There are only two elements here — a fan and a stone — so everything depends on the fluting. Deep parallel ribs radiating from a point catch light in a sequence of bright bands rather than a single flat reflection, and because they fan outward the bands change width across the shape. It is the same principle as a fluted column, and it makes a plain half circle considerably more interesting than it has any right to be.
The flutes are cut deep rather than shallow, which is what gives the shadow between them enough contrast to read from a distance. The stone at the hinge is a smooth cabochon in a plain bezel, and it is positioned exactly where all the flutes converge, so it acts as the origin point of the whole fan. The back is flat with a centred post, so the fan lies against the ear without tipping.
Black is the most graphic against gold. Green and Blue are the deepest. Aqua, Mint and Baby Pink are soft and summery. The gold fan stays the same across all of them, so the stone is the only variable.
These work with everything because they are bold in shape but small in footprint. They sit flat, so they are fine under a dupatta, with loose hair and with high necklines. Modern and traditional clothing both suit them, and they are a good choice when you want something noticeable that still stays out of the way.
Parties, office, daily wear and daytime functions.
Excellent. Nothing hangs, nothing swings, and the flat back means the weight sits directly on the lobe rather than pulling downward.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and into any textured areas. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
