Two small flowers, each with five rounded petals and a raised centre, sit one above the other on a fine climbing pin. No stones, no colour, no complication.
Among the motifs offered on this pin — shells, paisleys, stars, heraldic lilies — the plain five-petal flower is the one that asks least of the wearer. It carries no regional association, no symbolic weight and no particular style, which means it never looks wrong with anything. If you want an ear climber and do not want it to make a statement about your taste, this is the one to choose.
Each petal is rounded and gently cupped rather than flat, so the flower has real depth and catches light at five separate points rather than reflecting as a disc. The centre is raised and finished with fine granulation, providing the only texture. The two flowers are slightly different sizes, the larger sitting lower on the pin, which gives the climb a natural taper. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at the tip.
The pin passes through your existing lobe piercing and then rises at an angle along the ear, so a single piercing produces the look of a climber. There is no cuff, no clip and no second fitting. Slide it through gently and let the upper end rest against the ear — the angle it settles at is what holds it. Nothing hangs below the lobe, so it cannot swing, tangle in hair or catch on a collar.
Hair up or tucked back. These go with everything — Indian or western, plain or printed, day or evening — and they are small enough to wear continuously without thinking about them. Wear as a pair.
Daily wear, office, college, travel and casual outings.
Very light, with nothing hanging and the petals rounded so nothing catches on hair or a scarf.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush over the textured motifs. Store them flat in a pouch so the pins stay straight, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
