These dual tone open teardrop earrings are mostly air. A thin silver wire forms a large teardrop outline below a yellow stone stud, and the design fills that outline with just three elements: two gold paisley motifs and a stone-set disc at the bottom.
The stud is a triangular yellow stone in a plain silver bezel, flat cut and slightly translucent. From it, the wire frame drops down in a long teardrop, with a gold paisley hanging inside the upper part and a second paisley fixed to the frame itself, both worked in fine granulated gold.
At the base sits a round disc with a gold rim, its face set with small stones in red, green, blue and clear, edged with tiny pearl beads. Because the frame is open, the earring reads as large but weighs very little.
An open frame shows whatever is behind it, so these look best against a plain background: a solid-colour blouse or a plain kurta rather than a busy print, with hair pulled back so the shape is not broken up.
The multicolour disc means they pick up almost any outfit colour, while the yellow stone at the top adds warmth against mustard, rust and ivory.
The open frame is the reason these are comfortable: an equivalent solid panel of the same size would weigh several times more. The wire is springy but holds its shape, and the disc at the base keeps the frame hanging straight rather than swinging sideways.
Open-frame designs are made in short runs because the wire has to be shaped and balanced by hand; too heavy and it distorts, too light and it bends in wear. That makes them slower to produce than a cast panel, so stock is limited whenever demand rises.
Keep the earrings away from water, perfume and hair spray, and wipe them with a soft dry cloth after wearing. Store them flat in a box rather than a pouch, since the open wire frame can be bent out of shape if it is pressed against other jewellery.
