Product Description

These dual tone matki pot earrings are shaped like the round clay water pot found in every Indian kitchen and in countless folk paintings. Each earring is a small pot with a narrow neck, a wide belly and a fringe of tiny bells at the base.

Design Details

The body is silver tone with fine vertical ridges, and around its widest part runs a band of gold-tone granulation, hundreds of tiny raised dots that catch the light differently from the smooth ridges above.

A small gold flower sits at the very top as the stud, with two leaf shapes at the neck of the pot, as though it has just been set down. Around the base hangs a row of small ghungroo bells, which give the earring a light sound as well as movement.

Product Highlights

  • Matki pot silhouette
  • Ridged silver body with a gold granulated band
  • Gold flower stud with leaf detail
  • Ghungroo bell fringe
  • Dual tone finish, no stones

The Meaning Behind It

The matki appears throughout Indian folk art and in Krishna's story, where the pot of butter is a favourite subject. Jewellery in this shape is worn particularly around Janmashtami, and it fits naturally with folk and handloom styles the rest of the year.

Styling Suggestions

With no stones to match, these go with any colour. Wear them with handloom cotton, khadi, ikat or block prints, where their folk character fits best, or with a plain kurta to add texture without colour.

They pair well with oxidised bangles and a simple bindi.

Perfect For

  • Janmashtami and folk-themed occasions
  • Festivals and cultural events
  • Handloom, khadi and block-print outfits
  • Everyday ethnic wear
  • Gifting to lovers of folk-style jewellery

Fit and Comfort

The pot hangs just below the lobe, so the earring is compact rather than long, and the bells are tiny enough to add sound without weight. The flower stud sits flat, which keeps the pot hanging straight rather than tipping forward.

Product Details

  • Product Type: Jhumka-Style Earrings
  • Design: Matki pot with granulated gold band
  • Finish: Dual tone, silver body with gold detail
  • Stones: None
  • Embellishments: Ghungroo bell fringe

Care Instructions

Keep the earrings away from water, perfume and lotion so the two metal tones stay distinct. Wipe them with a soft dry cloth after wearing, and store them upright in a box so the ghungroo fringe hangs straight and does not tangle.

Why This One Sells Out

Folk-shaped earrings like the matki are made by a handful of workshops rather than in bulk, and demand rises sharply around Janmashtami. Outside that season they appear in small numbers, so stock is unpredictable.
