Two squares, each turned forty-five degrees so they sit on a point rather than flat, are set one above the other on a fine climbing pin. They are textured across the face and carry no stones.
A square sitting flat reads as static and slightly dull. Rotating it onto its point turns the same shape into a diamond, which has direction — the upper and lower points line up with the climb of the pin, so the two motifs appear to be travelling up the ear rather than merely sitting on it. It is the only purely geometric motif in this family and by far the most modern.
Each square is cut cleanly with four straight edges and softened corners, then textured across its face so the flat plane does not glare. Both are the same size, and they are aligned so their points very nearly touch, forming an implied vertical line along the pin. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at the tip.
The pin passes through your existing lobe piercing and then rises at an angle along the ear, so a single piercing produces the look of a climber. There is no cuff, no clip and no second fitting. Slide it through gently and let the upper end rest against the ear — the angle it settles at is what holds it. Nothing hangs below the lobe, so it cannot swing, tangle in hair or catch on a collar.
Hair up or tucked back. Of all the pins in this family these suit western and contemporary clothing best — shirts, tailoring, plain dresses — and they are the natural choice if floral motifs are not to your taste. Wear as a pair.
Daily wear, office, evenings and casual outings.
Very light and flat, with softened corners so nothing catches, and nothing hanging below the lobe.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush over any textured surfaces. Store them flat in a pouch so the pins stay straight, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
