A ring formed from flattened curb chain links hangs loosely from a plain fish hook. There is no solid frame behind it — the circle is the chain itself, closed on itself and nothing more.
Every other hoop is a stiff ring. This one is a length of chain, which means it behaves entirely differently: it settles into a circle under its own weight rather than holding one, it shifts slightly as you move, and it catches light in dozens of small flashes from the individual links instead of in one long curve. If you have worn a solid hoop and found it static, this is what the alternative looks like.
Curb links are twisted so that each one lies flat against the next, which is why a curb chain drapes smoothly instead of kinking. That is exactly the property you need for a chain to hold a clean circle — a round-link chain of the same size would twist out of plane and the hoop would look buckled. The flat face of each link also gives a broad surface for light, which is why the chain reads as substantial despite being hollow space between the links.
The hook above is deliberately plain and slim so that nothing competes with the chain. There are no stones, no pearls and no enamel anywhere on the piece. The links are large enough to be read individually at arm's length rather than merging into a texture.
These are modern rather than traditional and suit jeans, shirts, dresses and plain kurtas. Hair up or down. They are an easy daily pair because there is no colour to match and nothing delicate to catch.
Daily wear, office, college, travel and casual outings.
Light, and the hook spreads the weight across the lobe rather than pulling from a single post.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush between the chain links, where a cloth cannot reach. Hang or lay them flat in a pouch so the fringe is not crushed, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
