An open circle of polished wire, and a straight bar passing through it at an angle so that it extends beyond the ring at both ends. Two shapes, nothing else.
There is no motif here, no stone and no reference to any tradition. It is a circle and a line, which is about as far as jewellery can be reduced before it stops being jewellery at all. What makes it work is the angle: a bar passing vertically through the centre would be inert, whereas setting it slightly off the vertical and letting it overshoot the ring at both ends gives the composition tension.
Both elements are round wire, polished identically so neither reads as more important than the other. The bar is fixed to the circle where they cross, so the geometry stays exact rather than drifting. The post sits at the top of the bar, which means the earring hangs from the bar and the circle appears to be threaded onto it. Nothing moves independently.
Nothing is set into this pair at all. It goes with every colour, survives casual handling, and needs no checking. For an everyday earring that is exactly the right set of properties.
These suit modern clothing above all — shirts, plain dresses, linen, co-ord sets, minimal kurtas. They are small and quiet enough for the office and interesting enough not to be boring. A very good second pair for someone whose other earrings are all ornate.

This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and into any textured areas. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
