A square Monalisa stone sits at the lobe, below it an elongated oval cage made of crossed gold bars, and at the base a triangular stone closes the shape. Available in Blue, Grey, Green, Baby Pink, Aqua, Mint, Red, Black and Yellow.
Square at the top, oval in the middle, triangle at the bottom — three distinct geometric shapes in a single earring. Most designs repeat one form; using three forces the eye to travel and register each in turn, which gives a fairly small earring more presence than its size would suggest. It is also why this reads as contemporary design rather than conventional jewellery.
The oval cage is built from fine bars crossing in a loose grid, with a small square stone set at the intersection point on one side — an off-centre detail that stops the lattice from looking regular. The top stone is a flat square cabochon in a plain bezel; the bottom one a triangle with softened corners, set with its point downward so the earring tapers. Both stone settings are plain and flush.
Monalisa is the trade name used across Indian fashion jewellery for a smooth, slightly translucent stone with a soft inner glow, somewhere between a cat's eye and an opal in appearance. It is cut as a cabochon rather than faceted, so it shows an even field of gentle colour instead of scattering sparkle. That makes it considerably easier to wear in daylight than a faceted stone, and kinder against most skin tones. It is a decorative stone used in costume and fashion jewellery and is not a certified natural gemstone.
All three stones share the chosen shade. Black and Grey are the most architectural. Red and Green are the deepest. Blue, Baby Pink, Aqua, Mint and Yellow are the softer options.
Modern clothing and plain backgrounds, where the three shapes read clearly. Shirts, plain dresses, minimal kurtas. Hair up to show the full drop. These suit anyone who likes geometric jewellery but finds plain bars and circles too austere.
Parties, office, evenings and daily wear.
Light. The cage is open bars rather than solid metal, and the stones are thin flat cabochons, so there is very little actual weight.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
