A large half moon of deep blue stone sits at the top, flat edge upward, and beneath it a fan of narrow yellow petal stones spreads outward in a semicircle. Below that hangs a small silver jhumka edged with pearls.
Available in 10 colours: Purple, Blue, Sky Blue, Red Green, Grass Green, Baby Pink Sea Green, Peach, Blue Red, Grey and Yellow. The colour refers to the half moon stone and the petal fan, which are often two different shades in the same option.
Two strong colours used together is unusual in Indian silver, which more often pairs one colour with metal. Blue against yellow is a genuinely bold combination, and because the two shapes are so different — one solid half moon, one fan of narrow petals — the colours stay separate rather than muddling.
It is a design that photographs extremely well, because the strong colour blocks read clearly even at small size.
A large smooth cabochon cut as a half circle, unfaceted, so the colour stays deep and even across the whole surface. Its straight upper edge gives the earring an unusual, slightly architectural start rather than the rounded top most designs use.
Narrow pointed stones radiate outward beneath the half moon, each individually set in a silver bezel. Because they fan rather than sit in a row, the earring widens as it descends, which gives it the balance it needs against the large stone above.
Small, silver, pierced, with a fine pearl fringe. It is deliberately understated, finishing the drop without adding a third colour.
Post fitting, moderate weight, openwork construction. Comfortable through a full evening.
These need a plain outfit. With two strong colours already in play, a printed or heavily worked fabric will fight them. Solid black, white, grey or navy is ideal. Hair back, no necklace, simple bangles.
Most jewellery sticks to one colour and lets the metal provide contrast, because two colours together is genuinely difficult to control. It works here for a specific reason: the two colours occupy completely different shapes. One is a single solid half moon, the other a fan of narrow petals, so the eye separates them by form before it compares them by colour. Had both been set as similar round stones, the same two shades would have looked muddled. It is a useful thing to look for when judging any multicolour piece — check whether the shapes are doing the work of keeping the colours apart.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the pearl fringe does not tangle. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
