A peacock sits at the very top with its crest raised, above a kundan set crown and a deep bell worked in descending tiers, each banded with granulation and stone work. A dense fringe of small gold beads closes the rim.
Available in Gold — the antique gold finish shown, with clear kundan throughout.
This is a classical piece, and the appeal is in how completely it commits to one material. There is no coloured stone, no enamel and no pearl — only gold and clear kundan — so the entire effect comes from surface, texture and shape. Pieces built this way tend to date far more slowly than colourful ones.
The bell is worked in tiers rather than as a single dome, with each band slightly narrower than the one above, which gives the drop a stepped profile and considerably more visual interest than a smooth bell.
Small but fully modelled, standing at the apex with its crest and tail picked out. Placing it at the very top rather than on the body of the earring is a nice decision: it sits at eye level in conversation, which is where detail registers most.
Fine raised dots cover the bands between the stone rows. On antique gold this is what produces the soft, slightly matte glow that distinguishes traditional work from bright modern plating.
Post fitting. Substantial and clearly bridal, though the bell is hollow, so the weight is manageable for a ceremony.
Heavy silks, especially Banarasi and kanjeevaram, and bridal lehengas. Because they carry no colour, they work with every outfit shade, which is a real advantage in a bridal piece that has to suit several functions. Hair up, short temple necklace or none.
Coloured stones tie a piece to a moment — particular shades move in and out of favour, and a strongly coloured pair often looks dated long before it wears out. Gold and clear stone work does not have that problem. A classical jhumka bought today will look correct at a wedding in twenty years, which is why this is the category that tends to get handed down. If you are choosing between a colourful pair and a classical one at the same price, the classical one will almost always be worn more times.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the fringe does not tangle. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
