A playful, colourful ear ornament: a jewelled parrot perches at the top of the ear, joined by a curved golden bar to a bright flower stud at the lobe. It brings the look of a traditional kaan ornament without any extra piercing. This listing shows the multi-colour (navratna) version; it is also available in Red, Ruby and Green.
The parrot is set with Monalisa stones in many colours, in the spirit of navratna jewellery: red, green, blue, turquoise and pink, with a black stone at the beak and a small pearl. A golden hook behind it rests over the upper ear. A slim curved bar runs down to the flower stud, which has a large round pink stone at its centre surrounded by petals of red, green, blue, clear and pearl stones. Below the flower hang small pearl drops and a little golden charm.
These ear cuffs add colour and fun to festive outfits. Wear them with bright silk sarees, lehengas or a simple kurta with a contrasting dupatta. Hair tucked behind the ear or tied up shows the full design. They pair well with a multi-colour necklace or simple gold jewellery.
The flower stud goes through the normal earlobe piercing, and the parrot's hook rests over the upper ear, with the curved bar following the outer edge. It is a medium-weight piece that stays comfortable through a celebration.
This is brass with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough to wear comfortably. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it meets — perfume, hairspray and sweat all shorten it, while a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and hand cream, and take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and between any pearls, where a cloth cannot reach. Store it in a zip-lock pouch — which is what the supplier themselves advise, and the single most effective thing for a plated piece, because it keeps humid air off the metal. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner.
