These golden Kashmiri earrings are long, layered statement pieces that bring three classic Indian earring styles together in one piece: an engraved stud, a chandbali and a jhumka. At about five inches they reach well below the jaw, so they are made for occasions where your earrings are meant to be seen. This listing shows the blue version; the same design also comes in Baby Pink, Sea Green, Green and Red.
The round stud is engraved with a lotus-like flower and edged with fine beading. Below it, two small green leaves lead to a rectangular blue Monalisa stone held between a pair of stylised peacocks with green bodies and tiny pink eyes. Next comes a half-moon chandbali with a pierced lattice on one side and a cluster of golden ghungroo bells along its curve, framing a lotus motif in paachi work, set inside a ring of small pearls. At the very bottom hangs a little textured jhumka with a pearl fringe, so the earring ends in gentle movement.
Wear these with a heavy silk saree, a lehenga or an anarkali for weddings, sangeet nights and Diwali parties. Because they are long and detailed, a sleek bun or a side-swept hairstyle shows them best, and a necklace can be skipped altogether. The blue stone looks wonderful with royal blue, emerald, mustard and maroon outfits.
These are long, statement earrings of about five inches, with a push-back stud that sits on the earlobe. They have the weight you would expect from a layered festive pair, so they are best worn for an event; many people add a sahara (ear chain) for extra support through a long evening.
This is brass with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough to wear comfortably. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it meets — perfume, hairspray and sweat all shorten it, while a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and hand cream, and take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and between any pearls, where a cloth cannot reach. Store it in a zip-lock pouch — which is what the supplier themselves advise, and the single most effective thing for a plated piece, because it keeps humid air off the metal. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner.
