This is the facelet for someone who likes the idea but not the drama. There is no enamel, no tassel and no large motif — only a fine gold-tone wire following the line of the cheekbones, studded at intervals with small round pearls.
Face jewellery is inherently attention-seeking, which is why most of it is heavily decorated. Stripping it back changes the effect completely: from a distance this reads almost as a trick of the light, and it is only up close that people realise you are wearing something at all. For a wedding guest who wants to look considered rather than costumed, that is a far more useful piece than a loud one, and it is the design most likely to come out of the box more than once.
The wire is kept deliberately thin so the frame almost disappears against the skin, and the pearls are small and spaced along its length rather than clustered, which keeps the line clean and unbroken. A pearl sits at each outer corner where the frame turns back toward the ear, marking the widest point of the design. The bridge curves softly to sit on the nose without pressure, and the arms are long enough to hook properly rather than gripping. Lightweight brass throughout, finished in a warm gold tone that sits closer to real gold than the pale yellow common on costume pieces.
Exactly like spectacles: rest the bridge on the nose, hook the arms over the ears. Nothing is pierced and nothing is clipped. Because this design is so fine, it is also the easiest of the facelets to wear for a long event, and the least likely to catch on a dupatta as you move.
Being understated, this is the one facelet that tolerates other jewellery. You can wear it with small jhumkas or studs, and it works with both traditional and western clothing — it is as at home with a white shirt as with a silk saree, which is unusual for this kind of piece. Pearls are forgiving against every skin tone and go with any outfit colour, so there is nothing to match.
Wedding guests, engagement and reception looks, portrait sessions, and anyone trying face jewellery for the first time who does not want to commit to something theatrical.
Pearls dislike perfume, hairspray and alcohol-based products more than metal does, so dress completely before putting this on. Wipe the pearls with a dry soft cloth after wearing, never with anything damp, and store it flat in its pouch away from other jewellery that could scratch them.
Type: Facelet face chain, rimless spectacle style. Metal: Brass. Finish: Gold-tone plating. Work: Small round pearls set along the frame. Fit: Rests on the nose, hooks over both ears. No piercing required. Available in a classic gold tone.
