This cuff is sold as a single piece and is the widest thing in the kada range, covering most of the lower forearm. It belongs to the Afghan and Banjara tradition of wide statement cuffs: a curved silver-tone plate with a raised centre boss, crossed by chevrons of tiny multicoloured seed beads, bordered with granulation and hung with rows of small bells along both edges.
The body is a single curved plate rather than a band, which is what allows it to be this wide and still sit against the arm. At the centre, a four petal boss is raised out of the metal itself and surrounded by an engraved diamond. Across the face, seed beads in red, yellow, green, blue and white are strung in double chevron lines that meet at the centre, and because the beads are threaded rather than glued they have a slight give and a handmade irregularity. Above and below the beadwork, rows of stamped silver granules and applied discs form wide borders, and from the outer edges hang closely spaced bells that sound continuously as you move. The cuff closes with a hinge at one side.
A cuff this size is the entire look on that arm and should be worn with a sleeve that ends well above it. It belongs with khadi, handloom cotton, linen or denim, in a plain colour that lets the beadwork show. Wear nothing else on that wrist. It suits festival and performance dressing, and it photographs extremely well, which is worth knowing if you wear it to an event.
Navratri and garba, folk performances, craft fairs and exhibitions, festival dressing, and gifting to someone who collects tribal silver or performs.
This piece is made in one free size rather than in bangle sizes. It is shaped to pass over the hand and sit loosely on the wrist, which is how this style is meant to be worn, so there is nothing to choose when you order.
Free size suits most adult wrists comfortably. It is not adjustable, so if your wrist is unusually slim or broad, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether it will sit well rather than take an order that comes back.
The seed beads are threaded, so a snapped thread releases them: keep the cuff away from anything that could catch the beadwork, and never pull at it. Clean with a dry soft brush around the beads and granulation, never with water, which rusts the threading. Store it alone in a pouch so the bells cannot tangle with other jewellery.
