A pearl-row build: small round beads strung in lines and framed in gold-tone brass. Sized 2.4.
Two rows of white pearl-style beads run top and bottom with a kundan band between them, punctuated by red and green stones. It is a broad piece - the bead rows are what carry the width without carrying the weight.
The pearl rows are strung, not glued: beads threaded in lines and captured between metal rails. That construction is what gives this kind of bangle its slight give, and why it sits closer to the wrist than a solid cast band.
Rows of small white beads run the full circumference and carry most of the surface. It is a broad band, which is the point of a kada: it holds the wrist rather than hanging on it.
A band of kundan runs between the bead rows, so the metal and the beads are separated by stone rather than meeting directly. Red and green stones are set at intervals, the standard festive pairing against gold tone.
This is the most formal of the pearl-row pieces here. The central kundan band gives it a spine that the lighter bead bangles do not have, which is what lets it hold its own against heavy bridal wear.
If the outfit is already heavily worked, one of these on a bare wrist reads better than a full stack. It carries a plain kurta as readily as it carries a lehenga, which is more than most wedding pieces manage.
This is wedding jewellery in the plain sense: made to be seen across a hall, under light that is brighter and warmer than daylight. Stone-set gold-tone work is designed for exactly that, which is why it can look heavier in a photograph taken indoors than it does on the arm.
Most people order a kada a quarter size too small, because they measure the wrist rather than the hand. The hand is what the bangle has to pass. Fold the thumb in, measure across the knuckles at the widest point, and use that number. If you are unsure, send us the measurement on WhatsApp before ordering and we will tell you which size to take. This piece is made in 2.4.
To be clear about what this is: a plated finish over brass or mixed metal. There is no hallmarked precious metal in it and the price reflects that. Treated well it holds its look for a long time; worn in the shower it will not.
Put it on after perfume, hairspray and lotion have dried, and take it off before washing your hands or sleeping. Wipe it with a dry cloth after wearing and return it to a sealed pouch. Plated finishes are taken down by moisture and by the alcohol in sprays more than by anything else.
