A pair of kadas in gold-tone brass, set kundan-style with flat stones bedded into shaped rims. Sized 2.4.
The body is pierced into an open lattice, so there is as much gap as metal in it, and the red and green stones sit in raised collars above white kundan. The rims are domed, and a short bead fringe runs the lower edge.
What a kundan bed gives you that a prong setting does not is a flat plane. Several stones set this way read as one band of light rather than a row of separate points, which is the whole look.
The body is pierced rather than solid, so light passes through the band and it carries less weight than its width suggests. Red and green stones are set at intervals, the standard festive pairing against gold tone.
The rims are domed, so the edge of the band curves away from the wrist instead of meeting it with a flat line.
Openwork is the reason this pair is lighter than its width suggests. A solid band of the same face area would be noticeably heavier to wear through a long function.
Two on one arm and nothing on the other is the easiest way to wear a broad band without it looking accidental. Worn on its own it is enough; worn against plain glass bangles it becomes the piece people look at.
It belongs to the wedding end of the catalogue - sangeet, mehendi, the reception - where the rest of the outfit is already working hard and the jewellery is expected to keep up rather than stay quiet.
Bangle sizing is the one thing worth getting right before ordering, because a band that will not pass the knuckle cannot be worn at all. Press your thumb into the base of your palm as though sliding a bangle on, measure the widest part of the hand across, and match that to the chart. Between two sizes, take the larger: a bangle that is slightly loose still sits on the forearm, while one that is slightly tight is simply shelf jewellery. This piece is made in 2.4.
One thing stated plainly, because it should be: this is plated jewellery on a base metal, not gold or silver. It is priced accordingly and we do not describe it as anything else. What you are buying is the design and the finish, and both will last if the piece is kept dry and stored sealed.
Jewellery on, last. Jewellery off, first. That one habit does more for a plated finish than any polish: it keeps the metal away from perfume, hairspray and hand wash, which are what actually strip it. Store it dry in a sealed pouch with the air pressed out.
