This meenakari lotus and peacock kada is the finest pair in the range and the only one with hand-applied enamel. Lotus flowers open across the face of each bangle in pink, mint green and white enamel, peacocks in deep red curve between them with their tails drawn out in fine gold granulation, and pale kundan stones sit at the junctions. It is a considerably more ambitious piece than a stone-set bangle, and it is priced accordingly.
Meenakari is enamel fired into recesses cut in the metal, and what distinguishes good work is the crispness of the line between one colour and the next. Here the lotus petals are laid in two tones, a pale pink at the base graduating into white at the tip, with mint green leaves curling beneath them, and each colour is held within its own raised gold border so nothing bleeds. The peacocks are worked in red with tiny blue-black eyes, their bodies textured with granulation, the individual gold beads visible up close. Between the motifs sit pale kundan stones in raised collars, and the gaps are filled with gold beadwork rather than left flat. The kada is wide and squared in profile rather than round, which is what gives it the weight and presence of traditional bridal work.
A kada this decorated is the statement, so everything else should stand back. Wear the pair together with a silk or brocade outfit and keep the other wrist bare. Because the enamel carries pink, mint, white and red, it will pick up almost any traditional outfit colour, though it looks especially good against deep green, maroon and ivory. Skip stone bangles alongside; if you want more on the wrist, use plain gold.
Weddings and receptions, your own or a close family member's, engagement and sangeet functions, and as a significant gift for a bride. This is an heirloom-style piece rather than an everyday one.
This design is made in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
Enamel is glass and it chips. Never knock the kada against a hard surface, never store it loose with other jewellery, and put it on after your clothes and make-up are done. Clean it with a dry soft brush only, and never with water or liquid polish, both of which get behind the enamel and lift it at the edges. Store the pair separately in a soft pouch.
