These meenakari elephant bangles come as a set of two and are the most narrative piece in this range: elephants walk around the bangle between flowering plants, all cut through in gold openwork and coloured with green and red enamel. Small clear stones sit at the heart of each flower. It is the traditional Rajasthani vocabulary of elephants, leaves and blossoms, worked at a scale small enough that the whole story repeats several times around the wrist.
The gold is pierced right through, so this is a lattice rather than a solid band, and the enamel is fired into recesses within that lattice. Green fills the leaves, laid in pointed strokes that radiate from each flower like a star, and deep red fills the panels behind the elephants so the animals read as gold silhouettes against a coloured ground. Each flower carries a small clear stone in a raised collar at its centre, which is the only sparkle in an otherwise matte, painterly piece. The elephants themselves are modelled with raised trunks and detailed backs. Because the bangle is openwork, it is considerably lighter than its width suggests.
The red and green enamel is traditional festive colouring, so these belong with silk, bandhani or a plain cotton saree in a warm shade. They are busy enough to be the only thing on the wrist, and the elephant motif pairs naturally with temple or antique-style jewellery elsewhere. Avoid stacking them with stone bangles, which flatten the enamel detail by comparison.
Weddings and festive occasions, Navratri and Diwali, temple visits, Rajasthani and traditional dressing, and gifting to someone who likes craft detail rather than sparkle.
This design is made in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
Enamel is glass and it chips on impact, so keep these away from hard surfaces and never store them loose with other jewellery. Clean with a dry soft brush only: water and liquid polish seep into the openwork and lift the enamel at its edges, which cannot be repaired. Store the pair in a soft pouch.
