A hinged bangle carrying three stone settings along its front — a square between two pears — each green stone bedded in a flat white surround inside a gold-tone frame.
The flat white rim around each stone is the kundan idiom. In real kundan work, pure gold foil is burnished cold around a stone until friction alone grips it, with no claws and no heat. Nothing here is gold foil, but the proportions — the broad flat bed, the stone sitting level with its frame — come straight from that technique, and they are the most recognisable shapes in Indian jewellery.
Alternating a square between two pears is a very old arrangement. It gives the eye a centre and two answering shapes, which is why it turns up on everything from temple panels to bridal chokers. Three settings is also the most a wrist takes before the piece starts to look crowded.
Green against gold is the oldest colour pairing in Indian jewellery and the one that reads most immediately as emerald. These are glass, not emerald, and glass is the right choice — it takes a deeper, more saturated green than a pale laboratory stone ever will.
What makes a piece anti-tarnish is a clear protective coat over the plated brass. Brass tarnishes because its copper content reacts with air; put a sealed barrier between the two and the reaction slows to a crawl. That is the entire mechanism. It buys you a great deal of time, and it rewards being kept dry — water finding its way under a chipped coat does more damage than no coat at all.
The base metal is brass. It is heavy enough to sit properly on the wrist, soft enough to be shaped cleanly, and stable over time, which is more than can be said for the lightest costume alloys.
Put it on after perfume, lotion and hair spray, never before — alcohol and oils are what lift a coating fastest. Take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe it with a dry, soft cloth after wearing and keep it in a closed pouch rather than loose in a drawer, where humid air and other metal can scuff it.
If you are buying it for someone else, the fit is the easy part — this is a standard adult wrist size and it opens rather than needing to be pushed over the hand.
What you see photographed is what ships. Colour on a screen is never exact — golds in particular look warmer on some phones than others — so treat the photo as close rather than perfect.
