These gold bangles are worked in a wheat sheaf pattern, rows of pointed leaves laid in relief along the whole band so the surface reads as texture rather than as stones. At intervals a small flat medallion interrupts the pattern, each holding a tiny red or green stone in a beaded frame. It is a traditional South Indian treatment, where the goldwork itself carries the design and stones are used sparingly as punctuation.
The wheat pattern is struck rather than engraved, so each leaf stands proud of the band with a defined ridge down its centre, and the rows overlap in opposing directions along the width. That opposition is what makes the surface catch light from two angles at once and gives the bangle its warmth. The medallions are flat by contrast, set slightly below the level of the relief and edged with fine beading, and the red and green stones alternate along the length. A rope-twist border closes both edges. There is no enamel and no large stone anywhere, which keeps the piece firmly in the goldwork tradition rather than the stone-set one.
Textured gold is the easiest kind to wear because it borrows the colour of whatever is around it. These sit well with silk, brocade and cotton alike, and against red, maroon, green, ivory or gold without any matching. They stack beautifully with plain gold bangles, and because the pattern is all over rather than concentrated at the front, they look the same however they rotate on the wrist.
Weddings and receptions, festivals, temple occasions, family functions, and gifting where a traditional goldwork bangle is wanted rather than a stone-set one.
This design is made in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
Relief patterning wears fastest on its high points, which is where a gold plated surface thins first, so avoid letting these rub against a desk edge or a bag strap. Wipe them with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry brush in the recesses between the leaves. Keep them away from water, perfume and sanitiser.
