These gold kada come as a set of two and are built around peacocks. Each bird is modelled in relief with its tail fanned behind it, and small touches of blue and red enamel pick out the wings, while red and clear stones in beaded frames fill the spaces between. The gold is worked to an antique tone rather than a bright polish, which suits the density of the design and keeps a busy surface from glaring.
The peacocks repeat around the band, each one facing the same direction with its body raised well clear of the ground and its crest picked out in fine beading. Blue enamel runs along the wing edge and a touch of red marks the throat, and because these are small areas of colour on a large gold surface they draw the eye to the bird rather than competing with it. Between the peacocks, oval and round stones alternate: red in some frames, clear in others, each ringed with a border of tiny gold beads. Behind everything, the ground is filled with fine scrollwork so no flat metal is left, and the band is generously wide. The antique gold tone darkens the recesses and brightens the raised work.
A wide peacock kada is bridal jewellery and behaves like it. Wear the pair on one wrist with heavy silk or brocade, and keep the other bare or with a plain gold bangle. Red, maroon, deep green and ivory all sit well behind it. Because the kada already carries enamel, avoid another enamel piece elsewhere; plain gold earrings and a stone necklace work better than matching everything.
Weddings and receptions, engagement and sangeet functions, Diwali, and as a substantial gift for a bride.
This design is made in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
There is enamel, stone setting and fine scrollwork on one piece here, so treat it as a delicate item: clean with a dry soft brush only, never water or liquid polish, which get under enamel edges and into scrollwork where they cannot be dried. Keep the pair away from perfume and sanitiser and store them in a soft pouch, not loose with other jewellery.
