These gold kada come as a set of two and are the heaviest and most expensive pieces in the entire kada range. Each band opens at the front and terminates in a sculpted peacock head, beak and crest modelled in the round, with a red stone set as the eye and a small clear stone in the crest. The bands themselves are covered in dense granulation with a rope of twisted gold running around the inner edge. This is the classic form of the South Indian bridal kada, where animal head terminals are a centuries old convention.
The peacock heads are the piece. Each is fully modelled rather than stamped, with a curved beak, a raised crest of fine gold wires and a stippled neck, and the two heads face each other across the opening so the kada reads as a closed form when worn. A red stone sits at each eye and a clear one in each crest, and these are the only stones on the entire bangle. The body behind is covered in granulation laid in bands, alternating coarse and fine, with a heavy twisted rope along the inner rim. The kada closes with a screw pin through the terminals, which is how a piece of this weight is properly secured, and that mechanism is itself a mark of the traditional construction.
This is the piece everything else in an outfit defers to. Wear the pair with heavy silk or a kanjeevaram, keep the other wrist bare, and let the necklace be simpler than you might otherwise choose. Gold on gold is correct here: no oxidised or silver jewellery alongside. Because the only colour is two red eyes, any traditional outfit shade works behind it.
Weddings, your own or a close family member's, receptions, and as a major gift for a bride. This is an heirloom-style purchase rather than an occasional one.
This design is made in sizes 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
The screw pin is the part that fails if mistreated: never force the kada open wider than the pin allows, and keep the pin somewhere safe if you remove it. Granulation traps dust, so clean with a dry soft brush and never soak the kada, since water sits between the granules and dulls the gold as it dries. Store the pair separately in soft pouches.
