This gold kada alternates three things around its length: a round medallion filled with deep teal enamel, a band of red and green meenakari, and clusters of pale polki look stones. Underneath, the gold is pierced into scrollwork so the whole piece has depth rather than sitting flat. Teal is an unusual enamel colour in Indian bridal jewellery, where red and green dominate, and it is what gives this kada its slightly antique, Mughal feel.
The medallions are the anchor. Each is a circle of teal enamel with a gold motif rising out of it, shaped like a stylised bird or vine, and a pale stone set where the motif turns. Either side of the medallion, the gold is cut through into curling scrollwork, so light passes behind the raised elements. The meenakari bands run across the width at intervals, red and green laid in narrow channels with gold ribs between them, and small flowers of pale stones with red enamel centres punctuate the length. The stones are polki look: flat, uncut in appearance and slightly milky, rather than the bright faceted stones used on modern AD bangles.
The teal makes this easier to place than a conventional red and green bangle: it sits beautifully against ivory, gold, deep green and peacock blue, and it lifts a maroon outfit rather than disappearing into it. Wear it as the main piece on one wrist with silk or brocade. Avoid pairing it with another enamel piece, which will compete; plain gold beside it works far better.
Weddings and receptions, engagement and sangeet functions, festive occasions where you want something less predictable than red and green, and gifting to a bride.
This design is made in sizes 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. Send us your measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the size before the order is taken.
Enamel is glass and chips on impact, so keep this away from hard surfaces and store it alone in a soft pouch. Clean with a dry soft brush only: water and liquid polish seep under the enamel edges and into the pierced scrollwork, where they cannot be dried out. Take it off before washing your hands.
