These gold kada come as a set of two and take a very unusual approach to surface: instead of engraving or enamel, the band is massed with hundreds of tiny red beads packed together like berries, and set into that field are green oval cabochons each ringed by a halo of clear stones. The texture is the point, and it is the reason these look quite different from every other gold kada in this range.
The red beads are individually set in a dense scatter so the band reads as a deep red field shot through with gold, and because they are round and raised they catch light from every direction rather than in one plane. At intervals, a green oval cabochon sits in a gold collar with eight clear stones ringed around it to form a flower, and these clusters are the only flat, formal element on an otherwise entirely textured surface. Along the inner edge, a scalloped gold border with further red beads finishes the band. The whole thing is considerably lighter than it looks, because the body beneath the beadwork is pierced.
Red and green on gold is the most traditional bridal combination there is, and the beaded texture here gives it a richness that a flat stone-set band cannot match. Wear the pair with silk or brocade in maroon, green, gold or ivory. Because the surface is so busy, keep the rest of the jewellery smooth: a plain gold chain or a simple stone necklace rather than anything equally textured.

This design is made in sizes 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. Indian bangle sizes count upward, so a 2.4 is a smaller fit than a 2.6 and a 2.8 is larger again, with 2.6 the size most women take. These slip on over the hand rather than opening on a hinge or a screw, so choosing correctly matters more here than it would on an adjustable bangle.
The reliable way to find your size is to take a bangle that already fits you, measure straight across the inside from edge to edge, and match that against a bangle size chart. If you do not own one, bring your thumb across to the base of your little finger as though you were slipping a bangle on, wrap a strip of paper snugly around the widest part of that shape, mark where it overlaps and measure it flat. If you fall between two sizes take the larger one: a bangle that will not pass the hand cannot be worn at all, while a slightly loose one still sits well. A massed bead surface traps dust in every gap and a cloth will simply skate over it, so clean with a dry soft brush. Never soak the kada: water sits between the beads and takes a long time to dry, which dulls both the beads and the gold. Keep it away from perfume and sanitiser and store the pair in a soft pouch.
