Three panels hinged together on a thick black dori. The centre is a large flower — a round stone ringed by petal cut teardrops radiating outward, the whole outlined in tiny seed pearls. A smaller teardrop panel sits on each side, set the same way, angled so the row curves. Heavy clusters of pearls in mixed sizes hang from every panel. The matching earrings are single flowers with their own pearl drops.
Available in 7 colours: Ruby, Red, White, Baby Pink, Black, Green and Multi Color. The colour refers to the stones.
Outlining every panel in seed pearls rather than plain metal is the detail that lifts this above similar designs. The white line separates each panel from the dark silver around it, so the three shapes read distinctly instead of merging into one mass.
The pearls below are deliberately uneven — different sizes, different lengths, clustered rather than strung. That irregularity is what keeps a symmetrical piece from looking stiff.
Teardrop stones set point inward around a round centre, so the petals widen outward and the flower appears to open. It is the largest element and it is meant to be.
Hinged to the centre and angled slightly, which lets the choker follow the curve of the throat rather than sitting as a flat bar.
At the base of the throat on a thick dori that ties to fit. Substantial in appearance; the panels are thin sheet behind the stones, so it is moderate in weight.
Plain solid cotton, handloom and simple silk with an open neckline and hair tied back. Green and ruby read as traditional, black and white as modern.
A row of very small pearls set tight against the edge of a panel does something no metal border can. It is bright without being reflective, so it separates the panel from its surroundings in any light, including the flat light where polished silver simply disappears. It also softens what would otherwise be a hard cut edge, which matters most on a piece worn against the throat. The technique is old and labour intensive, since every pearl has to be individually seated, and its presence is usually a reliable sign that the rest of the piece has been made carefully too.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Keep the dori dry, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store flat so the pearl clusters are not crushed.
