Two necklaces of the same construction at different lengths: a band of scrolled openwork in antique gold, edged with a fringe of small gold beads, each centred on a round Lakshmi medallion in raised relief with a heavier bead fringe beneath it. The shorter piece sits at the base of the throat and the longer falls across the chest. Matching jhumka earrings complete the set.
Available in Red — red and green stone accents in an antique gold finish.
Two layers make a fuller line than one necklace ever can, because they fill the space between the throat and the chest rather than drawing a single line across it. Bought as a pair they share a scroll pattern, a fringe and a medallion, so the effect is deliberate rather than layered by accident.
The openwork is what keeps a set this large from looking solid. Skin shows through the scrollwork along the whole length, so the necklaces read as pattern rather than as bands of metal.
Lakshmi in relief at the centre of each piece, the same figure at two sizes. Repeating the medallion is what ties the two lengths together as one set.
Small gold beads along the lower edge of both necklaces, with a denser cluster below each medallion. The fringe softens the outline and moves independently of the rigid band above.
Both pieces sit flat and close. This is a full bridal weight set, meant for a ceremony, and the two lengths are designed to be worn at the same time.
Kanjeevaram and Banarasi silks, and traditional South Indian bridal dressing. Red, green and mustard suit the antique gold best. No other necklace is needed.
Layering fails when the two pieces are too similar in length or too different in weight. The reliable rule is a clear gap — at least two finger widths between the lower edge of the upper piece and the top of the lower one — so each reads separately instead of crowding. Weight should decrease upward, with the heavier piece lower down, which is how the eye expects gravity to work. And one piece should lead: if both have large centrepieces at the same scale, they compete. A set supplied as a pair, like this one, has already resolved all three, which is why a matched two layer set is much easier to wear than two pieces combined at home.
Store the two necklaces flat and separately so the fringes are not crushed. Put them on after perfume and wipe with a dry soft cloth.
