A necklace in the temple manner: arched panels with figures and motifs worked in relief, set with red stones, and a close pearl fringe along the bottom edge.
Temple jewellery copies the architecture of South Indian shrines rather than any natural form. The arched niche, the stepped tower, the figure framed inside a recess — these are building elements, shrunk and hung round a neck. It began as jewellery made for temple deities and for the dancers who performed before them, and it moved onto ordinary necks only in the last two centuries.
The idiom has rules. The relief is deep, the gold tone is warm rather than bright, the stones are red and green rather than pastel, and the composition is symmetrical about a centre. A piece that keeps those rules reads as temple work even when, as here, it is plated brass rather than cast gold.
Temple pieces almost always finish with a dense row of pearls or beads rather than a sparse one. The density matters: a close fringe reads as a solid lower border that completes the architecture, where a sparse fringe reads as decoration hanging off the bottom of it. The piece is meant to look built, not trimmed.
This is the most formal piece in the range and it belongs with silk. Wear it for a wedding or a temple occasion, hair up, with the neckline cut away so the arches are not interrupted.
Red is the one colourway held for this necklace set, and the photographs show it exactly.
Instead of an add-to-cart button there is an enquiry button, deliberately: these arrive in small runs per colour and we would rather confirm the shade is in hand than refund you later.
The white stones are CZ, a laboratory-grown crystal that is a real stone rather than paste, and the colour comes from glass. We name both plainly rather than reaching for gemstone words the piece has not earned.
Underneath the colour it is brass. That is why it sits with some weight rather than feeling like foil, and why it holds its shape.
Sizing is the usual worry when jewellery is bought for someone else, and it barely applies here. Necklaces and sets fasten with an adjustable chain, earrings need only a pierced lobe, and nothing has to be measured in advance. It arrives boxed and ready to give.
The photographs on this page are of the piece itself under ordinary light rather than a studio set-up, so what you see is close to what arrives. Screens do shift colour, golds especially, so if an exact shade matters to you, ask on the enquiry and we will describe it against something familiar.
Never use silver dip, polish or an ultrasonic cleaner on it. A dry cotton cloth is the only cleaning a plated piece should ever get. This is a prepaid order like every other on Keyura; no COD option exists.
