The centrepiece is an open ring — a thick band of oxidised silver studded all round with small coloured stones and gold beads, with a gap at the top and pearl clusters hanging from the lower curve. It is suspended from a long chain of small silver beads, and the matching earrings echo the ring in miniature.
Available in 2 colours: Multi Color and Red. The colour refers to the stones set around the ring.
A large open circle is a genuinely bold shape for a necklace, and it works for the same reason a hoop earring does: the empty centre lets skin show through, so the piece reads as a strong outline rather than a heavy mass.
Leaving a gap at the top of the ring rather than closing it is the detail that makes it feel deliberate. A closed circle would look like a wreath; an open one reads as a torque, which is an older and more architectural form.
Rather than a plain chain, the ring hangs from a long line of small silver beads that ends in a black thread and tassel. The beaded chain has enough texture to belong with the ring rather than simply carrying it.
Small stones alternate with gold beads all the way around the band, so the two metals and the colour repeat in a steady rhythm around the circle.
Long, with the ring sitting below the collarbone. Substantial, so it suits a ceremony, but the open centre keeps it from being as heavy as a solid pendant of the same diameter.
Plain solid fabrics and an open neckline. Black, white, deep green and mustard all suit. This is the only piece you need at the neck.
An open ring worn at the neck is one of the oldest ornament forms anywhere, appearing in Celtic, Central Asian and Indian tribal metalwork alike, usually made from a single heavy piece of metal with the ends left apart. In Indian silver it survives in rural and tribal jewellery, where the weight itself carried value. Modern versions borrow the outline but hang it from a chain rather than resting it on the collarbone, which is what makes a shape this large comfortable to wear.
Store it flat in a pouch so the pearl clusters and chain do not tangle. Put it on after perfume, and keep it away from water.
