Cubic zirconia does the bright work here and coloured glass does the colour. Each is used where it is better — CZ wins on light, glass wins on saturation, and no part of the piece pretends to be a mined stone.

The body is brass under a gold-tone plating, which is what gives it weight in the hand without the price of the metal it imitates.
