A thick black dori carries a single bold pendant: a large faceted rectangular stone set in a deeply engraved silver frame, with a fan of small multicoloured stones arranged around a teardrop above it and a scatter of the same stones along the lower edge. Pearl clusters hang from one side and beneath. The matching earrings repeat the rectangle and the stone fringe at a smaller scale.
Available in 3 colours: Sea Green, Green and Baby Pink. The colour refers to the large rectangular stone.
One large stone against a crowd of tiny ones is the entire idea. The rectangle is dark, smooth and faceted; everything around it is small, bright and varied — so the centre reads as calm and the surround as busy, and neither has to compete.
The frame is engraved rather than plain, with a scrolling pattern cut into the silver right up to the stone's edge. It means the setting contributes something instead of merely holding the stone in place.
Cut with flat planes rather than domed, which is unusual against oxidised silver. Here it works because the stone is large enough to catch light on several faces at once rather than going flat.
Small petal cut stones in mixed colours fanning out above the rectangle, in the navratna manner. They give the pendant a top and stop it reading as a plain framed rectangle.
At the base of the throat on a thick dori that ties to fit. It is a single bold pendant rather than a row, so it sits as one clear shape against the skin.
Plain solid cotton, handloom and simple silk with an open neckline. Black, white, charcoal and indigo suit it best, where the scattered stone colours can be picked out.
A necklace built from repeated elements fills the neckline and reads as a band; a single pendant reads as an object. The second is easier to wear for a practical reason — it can be dressed up or down by what you put with it, while a full row always commands the same amount of attention. A single pendant also photographs more clearly, sits comfortably under a dupatta without bulk, and pairs with a second necklace if you want to layer. If you are choosing one piece to cover several kinds of occasion, a bold single pendant usually stretches further than an elaborate row.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Wipe with a dry soft cloth, keep the dori dry, and store flat in a pouch.
