Peacocks link tail to beak down both sides, each with a stone set into its body and a fanned tail of applied beads. They lead to a chandbali covered in dense granulation, with a large hexagonal stone at its centre set in a plain bezel and a border of small round stones in two pastel shades curving around it. A ribbed bar caps the top and a pearl fringe fills the lower edge. The matching earrings are the same chandbali at a smaller scale beneath peacock tops.
Available in 6 colours: White, Baby Pink, Red, Sea Green, Yellow and Green. The colour refers to the centre stone and the border.
A hexagonal stone is unexpected. Almost every chandbali uses a round, oval or teardrop centre; six straight edges against a curved fan of granulation is a deliberate clash and it is what makes this piece memorable.
The whole chandbali is granulated rather than engraved — thousands of tiny applied beads covering the surface, which gives it a uniform matte texture that makes the smooth stone at the centre look almost liquid by comparison.
Small round stones in two pastel shades alternating around the curve, so the border has its own rhythm rather than being a single colour outline.
Each bird carries a stone and a bead fan tail, linked so the whole chain reads as a procession. It is worked along its entire length, which is why the necklace holds up in profile.
The chandbali sits just below the collarbone with the pearl fringe beneath. Moderate weight and the linked birds hinge so the chain lies flat.
Plain solid cotton, handloom and simple silk. The pastel border means this suits softer outfit colours — sage, ivory, dusty pink and grey — better than most oxidised pieces.
Both create texture on silver, and they are worth telling apart. Engraving removes metal: lines are cut into the surface, so the texture sits below the original plane and the pattern is sharp and linear. Granulation adds metal: tiny spheres are fused on top, so the texture rises above the surface and reads as soft and even rather than linear. Under the oxidised finish they behave differently too — engraving holds dark lines in a bright field, while granulation produces an overall matte grey with highlights on every bead. Neither is better, but a piece that uses one deliberately against the other, as this one does with its smooth bezel in a granulated field, is usually the more considered design.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and store flat so the pearl fringe is not crushed.
