A round plaque of oxidised silver, its surface filled edge to edge with teardrop stones set point inward so they radiate from the centre, the spaces between them granulated. A peacock in profile sits at the top and another at the bottom, each with a curled tail and a small stone at the crest, and pearl clusters hang from the plaque and both birds. It ties with a thick black dori, and the matching studs are the same plaque at a smaller size.
Available in 6 colours: Black, Sea Green, Red, White, Baby Pink and Blue. The colour refers to the teardrop stones.
Setting the teardrops point inward turns a flat disc into something that radiates. The same stones laid in rows would have read as a pattern; arranged this way they read as a burst, and the granulated silver between them supplies the shadow that makes the arrangement visible.
Placing one peacock above the plaque and one below, rather than a matching pair either side, is the unusual decision. It makes the piece taller than it is wide, which is the opposite of how most chokers are built and why this one reads as a single object rather than a band.
Flat teardrops with a soft glow rather than a sparkle, set flush into the silver so there is no claw to catch. At six colour options, the same design changes character completely from one to the next.
Small and irregular, hung at three points so they break the hard circular outline. Without them the plaque would read as a coin.
High at the base of the throat, adjustable on the thick dori. Light for its visual weight, since the plaque is thin sheet with a stone surface rather than solid metal.
Plain solid cotton, handloom and simple silk with an open neckline, and hair tied back. Black, white, indigo, mustard and rust all suit it.
With six options, the useful question is not which colour is nicest but which you will reach for. Red and black are the two that go with everything — red because it is the default festive colour in almost every Indian wardrobe, and black because it acts as a neutral against any fabric. Sea green, baby pink and blue are outfit specific, beautiful with the right saree and awkward with the wrong one. White sits in between, reading as a near neutral that brightens dark fabrics. If this is a first piece in the style, red or black earns its place fastest; if it is a third or fourth, the softer colours are where it gets interesting.
Never use a silver dip, which strips the oxidised finish. Wipe with a dry soft cloth, keep the dori dry, and store flat in a pouch.
